Zipping Quicken Directory

I'm trying to create a zipped backup copy of my quicken directory. However, when I restore the zipped file, quicken won't work. It looks like there is one file less in the backup than in the original. I've included the zip options to include hidden and system files -whs -Jhrs. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, Ken

Would be useful to know which version of Quicken you are using. For example, Quicken 2005 stores additional files in the "All Users" Application Data folder.

It sounds like you mean the Quicken program, not just the data. Is that right? If so, would that "missing" file be a file that the system has loaded at the time, such as a DLL?

You don't say which incarnation of 'zip' you are using. WinZip will report an error but will complete the zip operation, skipping such a file. You then have to ask for a list of skipped files. Also, if you have Q 2005 (maybe even earlier) it stores your data in your user profile (as it should) not in the QUICKENW directory. Also IIRC there are a lot of settings stored in QUICKEN.INI which is somewhere down under the \Windows directory; you'd have to pick that up too.

If you really want to do this, I would suggest doing it in safe mode. But beware that such a zip file, even if created perfectly, would only function on the machine on which it was made, because quicken makes some registry entries.

Wouldn't it be easier to just back up your *data*, and then plan on re-installing Quicken if the program itself went south?
