Quicken Basic R3 Report bug

When selecting the "Income/Expense" report from "How am I spending my money" topic, I have found this report only displays a few records for a specific category compared to other related reports. Therefore, it calculates an incorrect total for that category (Interest Earned).

I do not have confidence in the reporting aspect of Quicken as a result of this problem.

I have never heard of anything like you describe. Every report is customizable and you must make sure that any two reports that you are comparing have the exact same customizations. Do not rely on Quicken's default customization to guarantee this.

Unless there is something I missed when verifying customization details between reports, I found there was no match for totals. However, I will pursue another attempt to compare customization details and get back to you.

I want to apologize immediately for posting this issue. After running the report again, I found the cause for the difference was that only Cash Flow accounts were reported. Changing it to include all accounts corrected the total Interest Income reported. Thanks for your attention.

I trust your confidence in the reporting aspect of Quicken is a smidgeon improved?

You are right about my improved confidence in Quicken reporting as a result of this resolution.

Never any need to post an apology here.... Intuit's ideas about what is "intuitive" (pun intended) are often off the mark. It takes a while to get used to their reporting structure. You had a problem and it was resolved. That's what this newsgroup is here for.... Glad to hear you worked it out.....

Only a smidgeon, they reintroduced the "Exclude Internal" bug... I have my snapshot Income/Expense graph configured to treat loan payments as an expense, so that way my Income/Expense graph shows actuals for the month, kind of like a cash flow. When I double click to open up a full size version, it defaults to "Exclude All", while the snapshot graph is hardwired to "Exclude Internal". Granted I can still click "Customize" to change the full size graph, but it used to be consistent in prior releases. I put in a bug report and asked them to add all the customization features available with the full size graph to the snapshot graph, then simply use those as the default when opening up the full size from the snapshot. Who knows if they'll get it right in 2006...

I agree that the large graph should default to the same customization as the small graph, and I too would like the customizations allowed to be the same for both graphs.

But I don't agree that Q2005 has the Q2004 "exclude internal"

*problem* (not a bug; it worked as described in the Help). When I exclude "internal" transfers from the Income vs Expenses report in Q2005 deluxe for Windows, US, they are excluded using the old rules (as in Q2002, for example).

And this problem (inconsistent customization between Home page small and large graphs) hardly rises to the level of a legitimate condemnation of Q2005 reporting capabilities.

I agree, the snapshot graph is working perfectly now. I only pointed out that this little glitch related to the Exclude Internal has been a 2 year ongoing fight for Intuit to get it right, and they still haven't gotten it completely right when opening up the full size graph from the snapshot. That little issue should have been caught when they originally fixed the Include External for 2005. I pointed that out to show that Intuit still doesn't have a full grasp on ensuring that their reporting functionality is working perfectly. This is not an obscure feature, it is right on the user's home page. This kind of stuff should not be overlooked.
