Quicken, DropBox, and Surface Tablet

Can Quicken be successfully operated using a DropBox data file? This would be to run, one at a time, Quicken on a PC, Laptop, or Surface Tablet.

Has anyone run Quicken on an MS Surface Tablet? Which Surface(1,2, or 3) and are you satisfied with its operation?

Running on DropBox is STRONGLY not recommended. All that you need is a sin gle hiccup of the connection to DropBox ... and your data file is toast.

DropBox, and other automated backup products, are also not advised for use as the target of your Q backups. When you initiate a backup, Q briefly clo ses the data file in order to force all write actions to a close. Then it re-opens the file for the actual backup. DropBox/etc. grab the data file d uring that brief closure ... and keep Q from re-opening it.

It IS permissible (does work) if you have DB grab the backup file ... but t hat would mean that you can't use the "append date" function of the backup ... because that changes what DB is looking for.

Thanks for the reply and warning.

I currently travel with an iPad which cannot run Quicken. Years ago, when I last traveled with a heavy laptop, I made a batch file to LAN copy the data and backup files between devices so they were current before and after travel.

A USB data stick should also work. In fact I now have a "Sandisk Connect Wireless Stick" which could serve for both the PC and a Laptop or Surface Tablet.

I would be really surprised if Quicken did work with Dropbox since the file is always open. I wanted my outlook data files on Dropbox so that each of my computers email, contacts and calendar stays in sync, but that never worked because of the file being open (so I thought).
