Quicken Desktop best device while on cross country trip

Next summer will be on 50+ day cross country bicycle trip. I use Quicken (n ow 2015 H&B) on a desktop PC to manage finances, investments etc. After 12 yrs of quicken have extensive setup and download management etc. While I ha ve android phone and tablet they will not be enough to to mange things usin g the mobile app which hasn't worked for me anyway. Im thinking of getting a small 10-13" tablet or laptop to take along in pla ce of Android tablet that would be as easy as my tablet but run full deskto p quicken along with email, browsing and wifi. As fast as I know I'd need a windows based pc. Would prefer to spend less than $ 600. Device would be packed in luggage in truck during day not carried on bicycle.

Wondering what others thoughts, experiences or suggestion are for good hybr id, or laptop capable for use with quicken. Thanks Barbara

If you can, I suggest you continue use the Windows desktop to run Quicken b y accessing your home computer with remote desktop software (not Quicken's Mobile app) when you travel. If you haven't already, you may want to revie w:

A small PC laptop costs about $175. It will come with Win 10 and probably have a micro-SD slot.

Change backup location on your desktop to the micro-SD card which will probably need an SD adapter to fit (usually free with micro card) and then move the card in the laptop when you travel. That way when you return the card moved back to the desktop will be up to date to your last backup made during your trip.

I do that now with Q 2014 Premium and it runs fine on both my Win 7 PC and Win 10 laptop. Before you travel backup the micro-SD card some place and leave that home for safety.

The issue I raise with the remote access option is the home PC shutting dow n, most likely due to a short term power failure. In my experience with suc h a setup (using TeamViewer) if power or internet access to the PC being ac cessed is lost, you then get no access to your Quicken file. You might nee d someone to have access to your home PC and be able to boot it up or reboo t it, IF something happens. Other than that caution, use of remote access can be a very viable option.

I hadn't thought of remote access but that is an idea that I have several m onths to try out. Thanks,

To enable a PC to automatically reboot when power is restored, I suggest en abling the appropriate BIOS power setting.

I bought a refurbished Dell laptop from Amazon for $105 that I used to test Windows 10. Also had Quicken 2016 on it. I connect to my desktop through WiFi so did not need a micro-SD card.

Seems like a Microsoft Surface device would be the best option. Doesn't have to be one of the expensive models.- a refurb Surface 3 should work fine:

But when I travel for more than one day I shut off my desktop so I would be without access unless I used WOL and remote access. Using the micro-SD means I do not have that complication.
