Quicken H&B Canadian Version 2010

If there is anyone who may have a clue as to what may be going on .....please let me know

We use quicken to to do daily finances We DO NOT download statements from banks or any other source into quicken

We DO download the statement to spreadsheet and cross reference MANUALLY from quicken to the spreadsheet while manually double checking and entering receipts

this is how we KNOW quicken is F-ING things up

the following is an example of what happened the other day

start quicken double check balance shown in quicken check against balance on the corresponding bank statement start entering new transactions every 3 or 4 entries double check ending balance after only about a dozen entries the balance is out in this case over $500

go back and triple check all entries just done no problem

spend the rest of the afternoon going through line by line to find where the balance does not add up

find the right one

you can plainly see the error

example balance = $1500.00 next transaction --- enter - walmart $22.00 for whatever - chicken dumplings balance = $1496.08

WTF ????

balance should be $1478

delete the $22 charge and re-enter it - nothing changes delete the $22 charge and put in $222 charge ( thats a whole lota chicken dumplings! ) NOW it calculates correctly

Change it back to $22 and it recalculates correctly

go to the bottom of the register and check the balance

now its out by a DIFFERENT amount

again line by line to find the miscalculation yesterday, it did this 4 times and we went all the way back to the beginning of the year

We have had this issue in the past in the 08 and 09 versions

when we upgraded to 2010 it was a new computer WIN 7 Fresh install of quicken NO upgrade ALL fresh - did NOT migrate over the previous database / backup file

so this meant a ton of time recreating all the categories again NO old entries

It had been fine for all of 2010 now it is starting this garbage again

so this was a brand new computer brand new install DB from scratch

NOTHING from the old system

This was the first time trying this method

This is now a consistent problem for 4 freakin years The only reason we know is because we MANUALLY go through line by line every transaction

kinda makes it pointless to use a software package

in the past we have opened up quicken and did the balance comparison and found it OUT before even entering anything

Have not been able to find anything relating to this issue

I find strange to think that this is only us when it has been happening for so long

any ideas would be welcome

thanks

The first thing I would do is check to see which column the register is sorting on (it's very easy to accidentally hit the heading of a different column and then have it sort by that). In Quicken H&B Cdn v2011, the column heading being sorted by will have a tiny white triangle, and each click toggles it up/down. I seem to recall that in v2010, there is also a button at bottom of screen where you can select further sort criteria - by Order Entered, or by Date/Order Entered. (In v2011, all of those are under "account actions" button at top right of screen.)

Hope this helps, vcardx

Well. Hot diggety... what you describe happened to me just last night using the Canadian Q Home and Bus 2010 Release R 2 -- on a WinXP SP3 machine

I was manually adding interest accruals from a bank GIC statement with multiple certificates in one account: the opening balance was correct... the "individual" interest additions were correct, but after entering all six, the new balance didn't agree with the bank's new statement balance.

A triple check my data entries proved they were correct, but Q wasn't "adding up" correctly... the running total after each entry was out by nonsensical amounts (small).

I deleted a couple of months' worth of data entry for that account -- a smallish task -- and re-entered and all appears to be fine.

The remainder of my multiple accounts SEEM to be fine too, but my faith in the software's performance is made suspect.

Something wasn't adding up.

Buit if they're "sorted" by date/chronological order anyway?
