Hi, Paul.

Sure. Quicken Help IS available - for most of us. What's different about your computer? You told us nothing at all about it except "when using IE7".

Are you running WinXP? Or Win9x? Or something else. I'm running Quicken

2006 Basic in the Vista beta (build 5384 x64), which includes IE7, of course, and have no problem accessing Quicken Help.

Your post doesn't offer much "help" for those trying to understand your problem. But luckily (perhaps) for you, someone in the Intuit forums said that if you open IE7 and go to

Tools > options > advanced > security

and check "allow active content to run from my files on my computer"

that will make help "available".

IE7 is in beta. Have you checked with the beta forums for other's experiences? Try looking for a Microsoft ng...

This workaround disables a Windows XP SP2 security feature called Local Machine Zone Lockdown. You can read about it here

then decide for yourself if the added security risk is acceptable.

John, if any additional info about this issue becomes available in the Quicken support forums I and others would be grateful if you posted it in this NG.

Thanks, Jerry

I'll be glad to ... if my memory serves me well enough to remember to do it.

The post that I got the above info from was dated March 16,

2006 - here is a link to the entire discussion which started back in February.

I hope the op here will at least test the claimed solution to see if it works, even if op doesn't want to keep the lesser security. No one in the Intuit forums ever posted back to confirm or deny that it worked.

John, thanks for the forum reference.

I don't have IE7 but the claimed solution is at least plausible. Quicken Help uses scripting up the wazoo within local .HTM files. For example, search for "dhtmlhelpdebug.htm" and take a look at it with WordPad. That's exactly what Local Machine Zone Lockdown is designed to prevent and what the given solution is designed to allow.

I'd also like to appeal to the original poster to let us know whether or not the suggested fix works, even if he decides not to use it on a permanent basis.

I'd also suggest that he make sure he has the latest IE7 beta release. Microsoft is notorious for fiddling with security features during beta testing.

It puzzles me that Quicken 2006 Help works with IE6 on my Windows XP SP2 machine without the suggested solution. My best (wild) guess is that Microsoft didn't implement (or withdrew) the LMZL feature in IE6 even though IE6 does have the option setting to enable or disable it.

Hopefully the Quicken design team is tracking this issue.

FWIW, it worked for me. XP PRO SP2 (with latest updates) IE7 7.05346.5 Beta 2
