[Quicken Premier 2006] PDF printer will not creat/save file

I posted this to the Quicken user forum over the weekend but without any replies so far, so I am now broadening my request to here.

Unlike others that have posted PDF printing problems, as the subject states no file is being created and/or saved to the HD. All of the expected dialog boxes appear, which in the first one I select the Quicken PDF printer. Then when I press print the next dialog prompts me for a file name and the ability to select a different folder to save in. It also has Save to PDF file as the Save as Type, which is the only choice available. When I click Save I am returned to Quicken and in a few seconds the Quicken Print dialog appears and gives the impression that the file is being created and saved to the HD. In reality however nothing is happening, as witnessed by the fact that the previously named file is not created/saved in the target folder. To date I have tried all suggestions in the other treads about PDF printing problems even though they were not appropriate for my situation. I have also uninstalled/reinstalled Quicken without any solution to the problem. So here I am seeking further advise/help with this problem.

Doesn't "Save to PDF Printer" mean you have a printer that is equipped to take PDF directly? Take a look in the manual (it's shipped as a .pdf file!!)

I started Quicken this month, and find that Schwab does not make information available far enough back to cover the initial purchases of most of my mutual funds, never mind all of the dividend re-investment transactions.

What have other folks done in similar situations? Is entering all of the dividend-reinvestments over years the only way (haven't got all that info anyway, for some of them). Quicken creates a placeholder with the initial count of transactions and asks for a cost. How can I determine a cost for that one point in time?

This may be more of an accounting question than Quicken, but many people must have faced a similar problem.

TIA LAS

LAS you will probably do better in getting help by starting your own thread and not hijacking a thread with a different subject. :)

I use Q2003. I went to File/Printer Setup/For Reports/Graphs and selected my PDF Printer from the Printer drop-down list. I then printed a register report (I used File/Print Register for convenience). It went to the named PDF in the specified folder. Try that. Geo. p.s.. I have a "free" Software995 PDF Printer installed. G.

Ah, if it were only that simple. Q'06 installs a PDF printer that is /supposed/ to work basically the same way. Only when I go to the named folder the file is not there. For more on this see my reply to Stubby, the problem deepened after talking to online support last Saturday (I think).

I took the advise of GSalisbury, see his post above, and went to List of List and downloaded and installed a free PDF printer and now all is well. Once installed I then opened the Printers and Fax folder and deleted the Quicken printer and the associated converter. Next I created a recon report and selected the new PDF printer, set the target folder and told it to print. Upon opening the target folder as you would expect the PDF file was there, which was something the Quicken installed PDF printer would not do.

Thank you, to GSalisbury for that bit of advise and to all that offered suggestions and help.

Thanks Ron, I ended up with CutePDF, although I can't remember why unless its because it does not insert an advertising watermark in to the document.
