QB Regular 2006 PDF problem

I'm rather stuck because I now cannot send pdf sales receipts but always previously been able to. I get an error message to say printer not activated error code -30. Also I get the message QB is unable to access the requested file. It may already be open.

Looking in printers I have the QB PDF converter listed there but for whatever reason it does not appear in the drop down list of printers in QB. I really would appreciate some assistance please.

Very many thanks

I tried printing to the Intuit PDF writer and got the same error message. I was able to select "Save as PDF" and that worked.

I don't think Intuit intended us to use the Intuit pdf "printer" to create PDF files and that is why we get the error message.

Thanks Laura

For me that option is greyed out, bet that should be a lead to someone more computer savvy than me.

Well what would be the point of the Email button if not to send the form as a pdf It has always worked perfectly for me for me for about a year so I cannot help feeling something has gone wrong. All very frustrating. I am able to get around it an inefficient way by selecting a a pdf utility I have purchased, but it is such a poor substitute!

I've read this suggestion elsewhere....maybe it will work for you...Go into Printers & Faxes and delete the Quickbooks PDF converter entry. Restart Quickbooks. This entry is supposed to get recreated the next time you use it. It is possible that your entry got corrupted.

Utilities like CutePDF will allow you to print to PDF files and can be down loaded for free. I do however recommend investing in ther professional version it is not expensive and well worth it.

Thanks Laura and Allan

I found that restarting QB failed to bring back the PDF facilities and went for a re-install which does. I already have the paid for version of CutePdf which is excellent however although I used it as a get you by yesterday for sending out sales receipts is nothing like as convenient or quick as using the built in PDF facility in QB.

QB also allows you to use a user configured e-mail message. This is not documented and from precious correspondence here is unknown about but is very handy.

BTW, if you upgrade to 2008 QB uses Outlook and Outlook express to send your e-mail messages instead of the Intuit servers. This allows you to further customize your messages.

Thanks for the information Laura. With QB set up as I have it I can alter the stock message I have set up and can alter it on an e-mail by e-mail basis as I am using Turnpike so the additional facilities of QB

2008 would not help me unless I have not fully understood the upgrade you are describing.

You are correct. Since you are not using Outlook/Outlook express this enhancement does nothing for you. Maybe enough people will complain that their POP3 e-mail program is not supported and they will make it work with any default POP3 program.
