QB 2006 Major problem with emailing invoices

short story is that I recently upgraded from 2004 to 2006. Major problems when I try to email an invoice the program locks up and shuts down. We have spent at least 20 hours working on this so far with level 3 tech support and nobody seems to have an answer. I will cut and paste the error code in the event somebody has fix for this because we are out of ideas...

Thanks Pomacanthus

I have a few questions for you:

What OS are you running? 2000, XP, XP64, 2003? Do you have any other Intuit products installed on your machine? Where *exactly* does it crash out? What are you clicking on? When you say it locks up - what does that mean, does it give you any error message? If so, what's the error message?

Out of curiosity too, what printers do you have installed on your machine and which version of Adobe Acrobat Reader do you have installed? (Current version is 7.07)

Something I'd try:

You can try reinstalling the "QuickBooks PDF Converter" which actually generates the pdfs for emailing, in the following way:

  1. Delete the QuickBooks PDF Converter from the Printer List,
  2. Under the QuickBooks installation directory is an install.exe. Run the install.exe, it'll reinstall the Amyuni driver
  3. Go into the Printer list and rename the Amyuni driver to: "QuickBooks PDF Converter". Make sure you give it the exact name.

Does it install ok, or does it give you an error message? If it gives you an error message what's the EXACT error message?

As a work around, until you get this resolved, you can also install something like pdf995 (google for it) and "print" the invoices to pdfs and then email them manually. Kind of a pain, but it's a work around.

My best guess on this is that the Amyuni driver has been corrupted somehow (a file needs to be reregistered or something) or that there's a printer conflict of some sort. Try the above and let the group know how it works out. ...and please, give us exact error messages. We like exact error messages. :^)

Running XP pro, no other intuit products loaded. I have the identical problem on my Dell 2800 server, and my XP workstation. Intuit seems to think there is a conflict in data somewhere causing this (there best guess). It actually sends the email/invoice but always locks up immediately afterwords. I have Adobe 7.0.5 will update after I send this. I thought of the workaround as well but seems like a person shouldnt have to go to that measure unless no other option. Will try reinstalling PDF converter later tonight and reupdate the group. My understanding is that ALOT of folks are having this same problem - intuit graciously offered to look at/test the file but with a 4 week turnaround which is unacceptable to me.

Thanks for help thus far, Im anxious to give that a try!

If you don't send them the file then the turn around time is forever. Now that I find unacceptable.

Weird... Ok so a few more questions for you:

  1. Does it happen in a new data file? Go ahead and create a new data file, make a few dozen invoices - and then try and email them out of the new data file. Still happening? If you take your data file to a different location that also has QuickBooks installed, can you email out of it then? In other words, could this be network or environment related in some way (specific to your current location or the programs/environment that QuickBooks is currently running in)?
  2. I'm curious: how many things are you trying to email btw? 10, 100, 1000 Invoices at a time?
  3. When you say it locks up,.. different people mean that differently:

A. Does the entire computer become unresponsive, with a frozen arrow pointer and completely dead in the water system environment? B. QuickBooks becomes unresponsive with the other programs working fine on your machine? How much time are you giving QuickBooks before you determine it's locked up? If you open up the Task List when QB is locked up (CTRL - ALT - DELETE) and view the Processes tab, what does the CPU usage on the affected machine say for QBW32.exe?

  1. Something else I'm curious about: If you go to START, RUN and type in: "eventvwr.msc", and open up the Application Event Viewer, if you scroll through Application event list - do you see any errors in there related to QBW32.exe? or QBDBMgrN.exe?
  2. Real quick, what do the system specs on your machines look like for all 3 of your machines: approx CPU speed & memory? Wireless network by any chance? What Anti Virus software, Anti Spyware and Firewall software do you have installed?
