QB Pro 2006 Auto Update Problem

Dec 11, 2007 2 Replies

I don't know if anyone else here is using QB Pro2006 but I thought I'd ask. QB did an auto update this morning, but the update won't install. I'm getting a 1603 error from QB's installer.

The info at Intuit's site says that's a Windows Installer problem and to delete it and re-install WI. Which I did and I went to MS's site to get the latest version of WI. WI installed fine.

Try to update QB again and get the same error. Anyone else having this problem with a recent QB update? I'm currently on R10P.

Hmmm... the info I pulled up from the knowledge base stated that the 1603 error "is caused by a problem with the application that needs to be repaired before installing the update"

The suggestion is to Repair the QB installation before installing the update.

I would try that first. Then, if you still have problems with the auto update, try downloading the patch manually at

Weird. When I went to

it presented a page with lots of different error codes. When I selected

1603 it took me to a page that said the problem was with the installer. It directed me to use instmsiw.exe from the QB CD. When I did it came back with the message that mine was the wrong OS for that version.

Everything on the page I saw yesterday pointed to an installer problem. Now when I try to go to the link I posted above it takes me right to the link you posted.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give it a shot.
