QB 2005 R6 Update

I can't get the 20005 R6 update to install. It stops at 24% while copying a file named qbupdate.exe.LOCAL

I have tried the in-program update and have manually downloaded the update. Still stops at 24%.

Anyone else having this problem or know how to fix it?

I had a similar issue recently. This is how it played out:

I believe that the stalling out at 24 - 29% is actually a known issue that's affecting some of the R6 updates. You may want to call QuickBooks technical support, to see if there is a known fix for this. If there isn't a fix to be had...

...I suspect an uninstall of the program and then clean directory reinstall to a new directory and then running the updates will resolve this issue. Kind of a pain though. Let the group know what fixes it or if you find the cause of the stall.

Running reboot.bat (in the QB program folder) fixed tejh problem in my case although others have reported that this didn't work for them.

I had the same problem after doing a frresh install of Quickbooks 2005. Stalled at 24% on QBUpdate.exe.LOCAL. After much fiddling (including running reboot.bat) I found the trick was making sure my Quickbooks

2005 CD was NOT in the CD drive while doing the update (I'd previously left it in there from the install)

No idea why that did it, but for what its worth....

Thanks. I also had the same problem. Removing the CD worked for me. Nice catch.

I have managed to resolve this problem in two ways,

  1. un-install Quickbooks and rename the intuit directories in c:\program files\ and c:\program files\common files\ also clear out your temp directories. re-install quickbooks from scratch.
  2. copy both intuit directories from another computer. replace all files... make sure you have backed up your data files if they reside in the intuit directory.

There's an easier way. Make sure that the program disk is NOT in the CD drive.

Just got off the phone with Support. Here is the skinny:

  1. Cancel the update, if you haven't already. Allow it to rollback. Exit QuickBooks if you are in it.
  2. Place the INSTALL CD into your cd/rom drive.
  3. On the CD, navigate to D:\QBooks (replace "d:" with the drive letter of your cd/rom drive.
  4. Go to "My Computer" in another window, and navigate to "C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 5.0\Components\PConfig\" directory. Replace "QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 5.0" with the version of QuickBooks you are running.
  5. Copy two files FROM the CD TO your PConfig directory, overwriting the files that are already there. This step will take a few minutes as one of the files is very large. These files are: * Data1.cab * QuickBooks.msi
  6. IMPORTANT: REMOVE the CD from the drive and close the PConfig window.
  7. Start QuickBooks and you will be re-prompted to install the Update as before. Go ahead and click "Install Now."
  8. The update should now install without a hitch.
