TurboTax 2005 won't update

Dec 30, 2005 3 Replies

this is XP Home, single user (as far as i know i have full admin rights)

1) i installed TTax Deluxe Plus State 2005 (purchased from Costco) accepting default install options
2) i ran it and exited
3) i downloaded the Dec 13 manual update from TTax web site
4) i ran the update, it unpacked its files into C:\Program File\TurboTax\Deluxe 2005\Updates
5) i launched TTax and it said there were updates to uinstall, i clicked "Install Updates"
6) nothing happened

i tried steps 5 and 4 a few more times with the result always being step 6. turned off virus protection and re-tried, nothing happened. i tried manually running "update.exe" and nothing happened. i uninstalled TTax, deleted the Updates directory and the update file i downloaded, reinstalled TTax, redownloaded the patch and ran it with the same result.

what am i doing wrong? is there some trick to get the update to work? do i have to actually create and save a return before the update will run?

the patch file is "wp_turbotax_1040_dlxr_fnd_2005_00a_lfp.exe" at 26.5MB (27,884,112 bytes) with File Version "wUpd.2005.07.00.01", is that correct?

I had this problem also. I exited the program, reloaded it, went to One-Click Updates (so it tried to d/l the updates again) and then did the install. This time it did the install properly. It seems to be a glitch but one that can be easily overridden.

Good luck,

ArnaP

thanks. did you first try the manual update? i haven't tried updating from within TTax or using the Update shortcut on the TTax program group. i prefer using manual updates when i have the option (so that i can keep the update if i have to reinstall the pgm and the online update isn't available at that time).

i guess i can try using the One-Click Update, but i'd prefer to get the manual update working.
