QB 2006 with VPC 7?

Anyone running QB 2006 on VPC7? I am running QB 2004 with VPC7 (10.4.4) on a PowerBook G4 Ti 667--very slow but usable. I am trying to figure out if I will have problems if I update to QB 2006.

Thank you,

Charles

I wouldn't try it. QB6 drastically increase the size of the company file, which slows it down on a PC. If it is slow now, it would be glacial afterwards.

Not true. I find QB 2006 runs a lot faster than the previous version.

For every person here who says it runs faster there's likely someone to match who finds the opposite. I see no difference in 2006's speed using a couple of new and relatively empty company files vs. 2005's performance using two established and fairly info-packed company files.

I'm running a P4, 3.4, XP Pro with 4gb ram. My machine dances circles around the OP's PB G4 in terms of speed but that's not really even an issue either. The issue is how 2006 runs via Virtual PC. The OP would probably have better luck asking at comp.sys.mac.apps

One of the major reasons Intuit changed the database engine is so large databases would run faster. Users with relatively simple needs were still precluded from using the product because the number of transactions generated exceeded the limits of the old database engine. Plus in a multiuser environment data access suffered under the old technology.

I am pretty sure Intuit did not bother to perform any optimizations while running on a MAC under Virtual PC.

Just curious, what sort of applications are you running on your system that require 4 Gigs of ram?

Probably not which makes the reply about it potentially being slower (due to the database file being larger) a valid one.

I don't "require" 4gb but I custom build my non-Mac computers and like my equipment to run fast and have the capability to handle whatever I might throw at it. Adobe CS2, mostly Photoshop, is an extreme memory hog though and its a program I use frequently. I also keep many apps open at a time, including one or more QB versions/files, and don't want to wait while my computer thinks about switching between windows.

I was thinking about getting CS2 after investing in a Canon Rebel XT but decided to start with Adobe Elements. Glad I did, the book on using Elements is still sitting on a shelf unopened.
