How many CPA's actually recommend Quickbooks

I am a smal business owner and my CPA has recommended Quickbooks as a means of doing Payroll? I know it is a good accounting program as I have been using it for years. It seems to me that the payroll add-on, the updates the cost of checks etc. dont make sense.

My CPA is a certified Quickbooks guy. Is he wanting me to do this to increase his revenue or what?

Help me!

Are you buying your checks and payroll updates from him?

You are paying him for advice but under no obligation to follow it.

Let "A" = cost of checks + cost of payroll updates for one year, plus one minute of your time per payroll period to prepare a payroll for 50 employees.

Let "B" = your time to prepare a 50-person payroll manually.

If "A" > "B" you should keep doing what you're doing.

Be sure to factor in the time it takes to deal with the government over errors which are more likely to occur doing payroll manually.

And, BTW, also factor in the time and aggravation you spend keeping up with changes in the tax system (both Federal and State, if your state collects income tax). Or, if you don't, multiply the time mentioned above, dealing with the government, by three or more.

decision made. Paychex!

I dont want to hassle with it and I like my payroll processor, she is very knowledgable and I dont think Quickbooks answers questions about federal withholdings.

Thanks

As we can all see by the OPs last statement that "I dont think Quickbooks answers questions about federal withholdings." that his final decision is the correct one. There are many end users that should not be doing their own payroll.

Try ADP. No concerns about changes reports etc. Enter ADP reports for net payroll and taxes with JE's.

We only have one employee, and I ain't paying $200 to get Quickbooks to handle if for me. Ok, that's my choice. What does gripe me is that it won't even allow me to put in a rate for Social Security and Medicare unless I pay the $200. It also wouldn't even give us a logical method of turning on manual payroll. I finally found it on the webpage where to select a payroll service. It's in a very illogical place, and I couldn't find out how to do it in the QB instructions or help. Their attitude seems to be that if I choose not to pay them, they're going to make it as difficult as possible.

I suspect the account recommends QB simply because he uses it himself and it makes his job easier if he can import your file. That's quite logical and could/should save you some money.

Since QB is sunseting their product every 3 years I upgrade every year . I can do my payroll all year for free with the one-time tax table. Payroll changes very little, if at all, in my State. FWIW, Jeff
