Migrating from QB 2000 win to QB 2006 mac

Trying to follow the instructions on the QB website.

I have to update my .qbw to 2004 before I can run it through the win to mac conversion tool. The link on the above page for the free trial version of QBW 2004 is broken. Does anyone know where I can find this trial version, or another way to update my file?

Actually, probably the best way to tackle this would be to convert the file up to QB 2006 (for Windows) first. You can get a trial pretty easily on the

website. In the QB 2006 windows version you'd be able to create a Mac export file (via built in functionality). Then you'd just need to open it up in the Mac 2006 version. Should be smooth sailing after that.

I suspect the link you found is only relevant for converting to older QuickBooks for windows files (prior to 2004) into QB for Mac version 6.0. ...the above outlined steps might prove easier. Cheers.

Make absolutely certain that you want to use QB for Mac before committing to it and, whatever you do, leave an intact Windows version of the file in a safe place.

QB for Mac is junkware, it doesn't have *many* of the same features as the Windows version, is prone to freezing up, and just has a very lousy feel.

It took me almost 3 years but I finally convinced my Mac client to let me use QB for Windows for her books.

I tried that. My Mother-In-Law has 2006 Windows. Doesn't work with a file that old. This taught me to keep current on my software. I guess there's no chance for my QB-Mobile now.

If I can get it to any windows format 2004 or above, I think the Mac version can handle it from there. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the heads up Tara. I plan to keep the file in backup and do regular exports to windows format for backup. I'm the only Mac user in the house. I did a lot of reading on QB-Mac and agree that for years the development was lagging. They seem to be almost caught up in 2006 version.

Bottom line is, I switched to a Mac after 20 years PC user. I'm so happy with it that it aggravates me to use a windows machine. I've seen the light.

If it gets real bad using QB-Mac, I have 6 windows machines I can switch back to for my bookkeeping.

Thanks again for your help.

Its still lagging quite a bit but for the casual Windows QB user it may not seem so.

I can understand that as I use both OSs myself but this is one program that is painful to use on OS X. I hope you find your experience to be better than mine and others I know.

Be careful about switching. The Mac>Windows>Mac conversion has caused file corruption for alot of people in the past.

I'm not far from being 'the casual Windows QB user'. I do basic estimates, progress invoicing, customer info, and banking. Just enough to keep my little handyman business organized and taxes easy.

Intuit is sending me a trial copy of QB 2006 accountant. They say this one works with all file versions and should get me through the conversion.

If this doesn't work out, I'll be into a copy of 2006 windows pro on top of the one I just got for my Mac. It wouldn't kill me to have to do my books on the Toshiba. I have to upgrade from this 2000 version no matter which OS I'm using.
