Renaming Security

I have a security entered in my file with two different names. For example I have Pfizer in a brokerage account with the text name Pfizer. I have the same security in my IRA as Pfizer*. This was done years ago. I would like to have only a single name Pfizer. Does anyone know how to change the name so that only Pfizer shows in both accounts. Today when I tried to drop the * from the Pfizer name in the IRA Quicken would not allow the change. Anyone know how to do this?

Please respond with detailed instructions.

Thanks.

Quicken won't let you change pfizer* to pfizer because you can't have two separate securities of the same name, i.e. pfizer. Only thing you can do is to change each transaction manually, i.e. Unfortunately there's no "global find and replace" for security names that I know of. If you have a lot of them I find it easier to copy the name you want into the windows clipboard by selecting the security name you want in a transaction and hitting CTRL C. This puts it on the clipboard. Then go to each of the transactions with the security name you want to change, select the security name, and hit CTRL V to replace it with the new name. (You need "Edit, Preferences, Set up" set to "windows Standard" for "keyboard mapping" for these keys to work).
