Saving a report which show splits

When I save a report with show splits selected, the selection is not saved. When I open the saved report, show splits is not selected. Is this a known bug or "feature"? If not, how should I proceed?

The "show splits" option works fine for me when I save a report. I know of no problem with saving a report with the show splits option.

I tested in Q2020 R30.19, Q2020 R26.17 and Q2017 R20.5; the Show Splits option was successfully saved every time.

When you post a question, you should include your Quicken Edition, Year and release.

I suggest you start by creating a New (test) Quicken file with just enough data to test the problem.

Other information might also be valuable, though I can't be specific since I know of no such problem. I only tested with a Banking > Transaction report and no other modifications to the default Customizations than "Show splits".

Thank you.

Quicken 2020 R30.19 21.1.30.19

I did the following.

Create new Quicken File. Create an offline checking account. Open reports -> spending -> itemized payees Open customize and select show splits. Save.

When I save a new report appears with the saved name. It does not have show splits selected.

Close and then open the saved report - it does not have show splits selected. Select it again and save. Close and reopen. It does not have show splits selected.

When I do the same with a banking > transaction report show splits is saved as you report.

One other fact - the show splits works correctly in the report, showing only the lines of the split that match the selection criteria.

I have never had that problem, but here are a couple suggestions I found on line. Not sure they pertain to your exact problems, but seems easy enough to give them a whirl.

"Reports saved in older versions of Quicken not working properly is a frequently posted issue. In some cases it helps to go into Customize on the balky report and click the "Reset Columns" button which the programmers added, then, if it works OK, save and replace the saved report definition."

"Anytime you Customize a report to do something like "Subtotal by" Category (or select by Category), Quicken will ignore the "Show Splits" option. In order to subtotal (or select) by values that are part of split transactions (such as categories and tags), it is necessary to ignore the "Show splits" option. That has always been true."

Much better problem description.

I can now duplicate your problem exactly (in Q2020 R30.19 and Q2020 R26.17).

[And in Q2017 R20.5 the displayed report does retain the Show splits option after "saving", but the Saved report does not retain that customization when it is recalled.]

I took these steps (in my existing test file, using an offline test checking account):

- Open reports -> spending -> itemized payees

- Open customize

- Select the one checking account containing a split transaction

- Select show splits

At that point, the displayed report showed splits.

Then I saved the report.

The report (the same report I saved) remained on the screen (as expected) ... but the Customize Show splits option had been unchecked (and the splits were no longer displayed in the report on the screen).

The act of saving a report should never alter that report's Customizations.

[The key to reproducing your problem was knowing that the problem occurs in the Spending > Itemized payees report]

As an alternative, you might try using the Banking > Transaction report subtotaled by Payee. My tests indicate that that report retains the Show splits Customize option when saved, and when re-displayed.

I suggest you use Quicken Help > Report a Problem to report this to Quicken. To improve the odds of getting the problem solved, I suggest you consider providing as much information as possible in the "report" to Quicken. I believe you could also provide a link to this discussion.
