Split Transaction ?

I am using Q 2010 and W 7. I have just moved Q to this computer from an XP computer When in a split transaction I could hit Alt+E to enter the transaction. This no longer seems to work. Where did I go wrong? Thanks for the help.

?Hi, trvlnmny.

E? No. It has always been S - except in the Enter (Scheduled) Transaction window, where, for some reason, it has always been S.

As always, E opens the Edit menu.

NO difference between WinXP and Win7 on this - or between Q2010 and Q2000, as I recall.

I don't have Windows 7, so I can't be sure; but I don't think Windows 7 is playing any role.

I think that holding the Alt key, then pressing a specific letter key is the way to achieve the same result as clicking on a button with that same letter underlined.

In the case of the split dialog, if you have told Quicken to "Automatically Enter split transactions", the split dialog will have an Enter button with the letter "E" underlined. Holding Alt while keying "E" should cause Quicken to Enter the split.

If you do not have "Automatically Enter split transactions" selected, there is no Enter button in the split dialog; there is an "OK" button. In that situation, you can hold Alt while keying "O", and Quicken will close the split dialog ... but not "enter" the transaction.

The "Automatically enter split transactions" option is at Edit > Preferences > Quicken Preferences > Register.

Many Quicken settings are associated with the computer, rather than with your Quicken DB. These all revert to the default values for the current Quicken release when you install Quicken on a new machine.

I can confirm that this is what happened to you and that John P's advice will work fine for Q 2010 and W 7.
