Stock dividend reports...

Win2KSP4, QD07

It's the end of the year and I'm having my usual fits checking my 1099s and hoping to make a completely automatic transfer into Turbo Tax. The current problem is a stock that pays dividend, part in cash( _divInc in my checking account) and part reinvested.

I can make a report that shows the cash dividends. But I don't seem to be able to make a report that shows the reinvested dividends. And, I can't get a report showing the total dividends paid (cash+reinvested).

Can someone tell me how to do this. (Surely I can't be the only Quicken user with this problem.) TIA

There is a known Q bug that a Reinvested Income transaction will NOT show up in some reports. To show in all reports replace a Reinvested Income transaction with an Income Received and a Buy for the reinvested part.

Did Intuit announce the bug? When will they roll out a fix for it? Re entering all my ReinvDiv transactions is a non-starter. That completely defeats the automatic download facility.

Have you looked at QW's Tax Schedule Report or at Reports > Investing >

Investment Income. In the later, drill down on '_DivInc' and subtotal by security. I get reinvested dividends reported in these [QW07 Dlx & Basic].

As far as I know, this only occurs in the Itemized Categories report. In my case it does not occur in the Banking Transaction report ... which can be subtotalled on category to provide the same info as the Itemized Category report.

Changing all reinvestment transactions to dividend plus buy transactions would be major work ... and would alter Quicken's reporting of at least one return metric.

I think a better approach would be to use the Banking Transaction report, subtotalled by category, until a newer version of Quicken corrects the error.

It also shows up if you go to Investment Center and select the Analysis tab. In the "actual" asset allocation there is a pie slice labeled "Other Asset Class". Click on that and then again on "Other Asset Class". In the past when I did this it revealed reinvested dividend, but for some reason that doesn't seem to happen today. In fact, I can't get down to actual transactions at all now. Not good for asset allocation and tax considerations.

I don't think individual transactions have ever been present in asset allocation (their results, yes; the transactions themselves, no); nor can I imagine what they would be doing there. Not having the transactions present doesn't cause me any asset allocation difficulties. Speaking for Q2004, Q2005 and Q2006.

As for the taxes; reinvested dividends appear in the Tax Schedule report, the Tax Summary report, the aforementioned Banking Transaction report, and the Income/Expense report (when investing accounts are selected). They also appear in the Tax Planner.

So other than the inconvenience of not having them in the Itemized Categories report, I don't see a major impact to the problem.
