Dividend and Transfer

Jul 01, 2006 8 Replies

I am using Q2006.

For six years I have been using DivX to record dividends automatically sent by my mutual funds to my bank at the end of the month. Went to do it this morning and that option no longer seems to be there.

Can anybody tell me what is going on?

Many thanks.

No.

But the only account type I see that for is IRA (Q2006 Premier, R4). Not sure why it is so, but it's that way in Q2005 (Deluxe, R3) also. Other investment account types all have DivX actions available in my tests.

I didn't have this problem until today and am having it inconsistently. Sometimes the divx is there for an IRA and sometimes not. Changes for an account from moment to moment. Did a uninstall-reinstall with no benefit.

You have not made it clear if you are trying to enter a new transaction or modify an existing transaction. Some existing transactions can not be changed to DivX (or many other) transactions.

I am trying to enter new transactions.

Gary, For years I used DivX to record and transfer dividends to a checking account. Then, I started recording the dividend directly into the checking account, using the name of the mutual fund as the source and _DivInc as the category. I find this better for me. It keeps the mutual fund account free of dividends, so it shows only buys and redemptions. Year-end summaries are the same. So, I don't need DivX anymore, even tho it is still available in my old version of Q. Carl

Hi, Gary.

The DivX function is still there in Q2006. Only the name has disappeared.

In your Investment Account, click Enter Transactions. From the drop-down list, choose Inc. - Income (Div., Int., etc.). In this window, use Transfer account to show which bank got the cash.

Entering the destination of the cash here accomplishes the former "DivX" function. If this Transfer account is left blank, the dividend received just increases the cash balance in this investment account - the former "Div" function.

I haven't used mutual funds in a few years, so there may be some quirks in Quicken's handling of those of which I'm unaware.

Prefer not to do it that way. By doing it the way I have been I can look at the security and see the flow up or down of the monthly dividends.
