TAXCUT rebate ripoff

I have purchased Taxcut Deluxe and Taxcut State and applied for the rebate for the State program $19.99) as advertised. I sent TaxCut all the required information, de codes, the sales receipt and some form I had to fill out. After 6 weeks I received it back in the original envelope with a letter from TaxCut stating that I had not sent them the sales receipts and codes. They only sent me back the form. They are obviously lying and they won't give me my refund. I suspect the whole rebate thing is a scam and consumer's fraud.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with Taxcut?

I got my rebate this year and prior years all without incident. I got this year's rebate ~3/14 and I sent it in sometime in Feb (I think).

My favorite pet peeve - "rebates".

Did you copy all the material before you sent it? Hopefully, you did, and you can send back photocopies along with a threatening letter to go to your state attorney general's office and/or US Postal Inspectors unit for mail fraud. And perhaps copy both of them in your reply as well.

If you didn't, you might be out of luck.

Yea, kinda makes you want to use 137 staples to make sure the form, UPC code, and receipt all stay TOGETHER!

This is the very reason that in addition to the form you fill out, I also put my name and address on the backs of the UPC code and reciept copy as will.

It may have made a difference since I've gotten my rebates back so far including this one.

(But then again, I don't try for rebates at Fry's...)

I've never done that, but it seems like a good idea to me! I'll start with my next submission sometime. Thanks for the idea.

No problems here. I applied for and have received checks for:

TaxCut Deluxe rebate TaxCut State rebate DeductionPro rebate TaxCut federal filing rebate

My experience for TY2002 and 2003 was positive also.

Yes I kept copies of everything. I have been talking to Taxcut on the phone today and they were asking for the information on my sales receipt. I will go to the state attorney general if they don't send me the rebate soon.

Thanks,

I just got back my "refusal" with a claim that the UPC code was not there. I taped the crap out of it, so it probably had to be removed by force.

They win. I am not going to keep this up for $10, but if someone wants to do a class action suit....

Next year buy from Walmart or the "strippers" and forget about this scam.

I find that I have the best luck with rebates at Staples. If the rebated does not come through directly Staples will usually honor it and give you your money due. Just make sure that you have copies of everything you sent in.
