TurboTax shortcut - how does it startup

I noticed that I have all my previous version shortcuts of TurboTax on my desktop and Basic 2009 changed from 2008 - no blue background. So, I went to the shortcut properties to see if they were mult icons. Nope - in fact on my XP system, that button is dim... So, I went to the sub-dir to look around. I noticed that the /program files/turbotax/basic 2009/ did NOT actually have an EXE located there, and it was located over in the /32bit/ sub-dir.

so - how does the shortcut point to the home directory without actually linking to an EXE, and then how does the EXE over in the /32bit/ folder get found ?

Just curious - as I had not stumbled across this scenario for program startup...

TurboTax 2009 uses a CLSID shortcut. The mechanism is like that used when you click on a file of type .txt, .mpg, .qdf or any other file type.

In the TT shortcut the Target attribute specifies that the .exe for a file of type "TurboTax 2009 WinPerReleaseEngine" is to be used. The asssociation between this file type and the TT .exe is created in the Windows registry when you install TT.

Hope this satisfies your curiosity as it's about all I know.
