Unfindable and Undeletable VOID payee

Recently I voided a payee and recreated the transaction back as it wasn't my intention.

Now, whenever I create a new transaction, I get this **VOID** as the first in the payee list.

I click on memorized payee - it doesn't appear there for me to delete it!

what gives?

thanks

It's probably not a memorized transaction thing. It's more a Quickfill thing, which is separate from memorized transactions. The problem is I don't know how to delete quickfill entries.

Here is a little bit that Help says about quickfill: "Fills in each field in a transaction as you type it. Works with check numbers (Num field in the register), payees, categories, subcategories, classes, security names, investment actions, and transfer account names. This is one of the features that lets you enter data quickly, so you probably don't want to turn it off. If you turn off Complete fields using previous entries, then Recall memorized payees isn't available either."

The reason it's showing up first is, under Quicken's memorization rules, an asterisk comes before any letter of the alphabet. In my case, the first Quickfill entry that shows up in the list is A&P (the supermarket chain).

I just tried turning Quickfill off and then back on to see if it clears the dropdown list. It doesn't.

If you want to turn Quickfill off completely go to Edit>Preferences>Quicken program>Quickfill (this is in Q2006).

If you don't want to turn Quickfill off, maybe someone else here knows how to delete a name from that list.

The way to delete the name from the list is to go to the Memorized Payee List. But it doesn't even come there!

That's what confusing me

No. Quickfill is NOT the same as Memorized Payees. Two different features of the program.

Is it in the address book with that name (TOOLS-->ADDRESS BOOK). If so, try deleting it from there.

I don't think QuickFill is totally different than memorized payees; I think it uses memorized payees ... as well as other sources.

Note that all the fields mentioned are fields that we know Quicken saves data for; either the field's data must already exist in a known Quicken "List" (categories, classes, etc.) or Quicken maintains an internal value ("next check number"). I believe that QuickFill uses that saved data (mostly from Quicken Lists) when it "completes" a field for you.

I believe there are at least three sources for the names in the drop down list ... and the list itself should give you enough information to determine what the source is. Payees in the drop down list can come from the Memorized Payee list, the Address Book, or the Online Payee List. The latter two will have their source identified in the drop down; memorized payees are not identified as "memorized payees", they will have info from the memorized payee list (such as category, amount, etc.) alongside their names.

I do think it's possible for come corruption to come into play, but I have no real proof. One could try Validating their data, or even deleting all the Memorized Payees and auto-creating a new Memorized Payee List (probably won't match the previous one; I think it just makes a memorized payee from every payee, but might be a shorter way to get the list back than individually memorizing the appropriate transactions.
