Old payee name - why does Q think this is still valid?

Open up your memorized transaction list, see if there is a payment made to the account with the old payee name. Delete the memorized transaction if you find it.

Also, check for renaming rules, if your version of Quicken has them (not sure when they were introduced). It might be that Quicken has associated the new name 'ExxonMobil' with the old 'Mobil Oil Corporation'.

Thanks for the two tries, but I already had checked both of these out. I wonder if when establishing a credit card account you initially tell it who gets the checks, and you can't change it (nor apparently display) once you establish it? I doubt it, but I've run out of ideas here....

Have you looked in the Memorized PAYEE list?

My memory is hazy, but I think we've discussed this before, and no one ever came up with a way to change that payee for an existing account.

Have you tried creating a new Quicken account to see if you can get a blank payee name the first time you try to pay the balance.

If that works, I'm guessing you would be stuck with that payee name forever ... or until you created another new Quicken account.

I use Quicken Bill Pay and have created renaming rules for online payees that I don't like - example Bank Of America renamed to Bank of America......Chevron to Chevron Credit Bank, N.A. etc. I would look at your Address Book (>Tools > Address Book) and look at your Online Payees (>Online >Online Payee List)

Again, thanks for the pointers, but I don't have any entries in either list.

Good morning and thanks John - well, I'm trying to delete all references to both 'Exxon' and 'ExxonMobil' and 'Mobil' in my accounts, transactions, etc. including online renaming rules.

If this doesn't work next month, I'll do what you suggest about copy/paste to a new account.
