Where did the holdings tab go??

I have Quicken 2010 R10.

On the Investment page under portfolio view I used to have a choice that stated "Holdings" under the "Show:" drop down menu. For whatever reason, that choice is no longer present and instead I have a lot of "custom" choices (Custom 1, Custom 2, etc.). The choices for Value, Recent Performance, Historic Perfomance, Fundamentals, Quotes, Mutual Funds, Asset Allocations, Tax Implications, ESO and Price update are all present along with the several custom choice mentioned. Notably, my actual "holdings" continue to show on the Online Center view under the "Tools" tab. Any idea as to how to get the "Holdings" choice back in the "Show:" dropdown menue?

Not only do I miss not having that view but suddenly Quicken started showing me every stock and fund I ever owned in all the views. I am sure I could use one of the Custom choices to make a Holdings view but would it sync with the changes asscoaiated with future purchases and sales or would those changes have to be entered manually?

Any help appreciated. DP

?Hi, DP.

I don't think I've ever used "Holdings", but it's right there on my Portfolio menu - about the 8th option on the list. Since I don't use Holdings, my settings are most like Quicken's defaults. It shows me all my CDs (I've created an Investment Account for these, no matter which bank they are in.), then stocks in my two broker accounts, my Watch List (Hmm...I need to update that), and finally 3 Indexes. And it shows only my current holdings, not what has been sold.

For me, the "Value" option is the one I almost always use - and "CDs" for my CDs.

Yes, I'm using Quicken Deluxe 2010 R10, in Win7 Ultimate x64.

The choices (Views) in the Show drop down are not fixed in name or content. You can change the name and content of any of those choices. Q2010 does not have a "Holdings" view by default (nor does Q2008), so if you had one it either came from some previous version, or you created it (at least, its name). In Q2008 and Q2010, the default for the eighth choice in the list is "Tax Implications" and the default for the tenth choice in the list is "Custom1". I have a Holdings choice in Q2008, but I'm pretty sure it came from an earlier version.

You can create/re-create the Holdings View - assuming you know what its customizations used to be. And you could re-create it in place of any of the 18 views ... you aren't limited to modifying the ones that say "Custom" (I think those "Custom" views are just the ones that Intuit didn't have any pre-conceived plan for).

There is one place where a very similar display is available that is called "Holdings": the Overview tab of each investment account. You can look there to see if that "view" contains the fields you were accustomed to seeing, and possibly use that as a guide to recreate the Holdings view in the Portfolio.

A couple of possibilities:

1.) you may have changed the Portfolio option to "Show closed lots"; or 2.) You may have checked the Securities List option to "View hidden securities". Plus, you have complete control over which securities appear in each Portfolio View - on a security-by-security basis ... though each view's customizations apply only to that view.

I'm not sure what you're asking here, but if you re-create the Holdings View with the same customizations it had, it will act the same way it did before.

John,

Thanks a bunch for your help (as well as the suggestions from the others).

You were correct in your suggestion "You may have checked the Securities List option to "View hidden securities". How this 'check' took place is beyond me as I have not messed with the views for years. At least it fixed the situation when I recreated the "Holdings" view. Why the 'holdings' choice disappeared is beyond me as well. At least I am back to my baseline (such as it is).
