Direct Deposit to Checking/Savings

My son is getting a refund from both Fed and CA. He does not have a bank account.

He is mailing in his returns.

Can he enter my routing/account information on his returns and have his refinds deposited to my checking or savings account?

I suspect that if he enters my bank information, along with my name (or my wife's, since both our names are on the accounts) as the one on the account, it should be ok.

Thanks.

Entering false information on a return may not be smart. They'll send a check.

Son does not have a bank account. Have you ever tried to deposit a third party check these days?

Yep. This is a short term situation. I wanted to get him his large refund as soon as possible. I'm not going to bother to ask the bank (BofA), because they've many times in the past either informed me of their policies incorrectly, or really messed things up, and once messed up, they've taken four months to correct due to their incompetency. Rather than risk another bad situation with the bank, he'll just have to have his refund checks mailed to him and cash someplace like WalMart ($6 fee).

I know you can no longer cash third party checks like you used to be able to do in the past.I guess that's a good thing.

What follows is not tax related, just curiosity:

You state that B of A has informed you of their policies many times incorrectly; they really messed things up; they take an inordinate amount of time to fix things that they messed up; and they're incompetent.

So why are you still banking with them?

The point of my post is that based on past experience, I won't trust BofA with answers to questions that involve out of the ordinary situations.

But, you ask a fair question, and I'd be curious, too. Why complain yet stay?

Primarily, I need ATMs when away from home, and convenient bank locations (besides home) when I have to do over the counter transactions. BofA meets this need.

Other than that, I just want a bank to correctly post DRs and CRs. They all do that fine.
