H&R Block Software Flaw?

I am using both TT Deluxe and H&R Block Deluxe, basically side-to-side in order to compare the two products.

At the moment, it looks like Block has a serious flaw, as follows:

I have a 1099-DIV imported from Ameritrade. Box 10 has a tax exempt dividend of $336. Box 12 shows, correctly, MI. However, this figure incorrectly flows to Schedule 1 of my Michigan 1040 and hence gets added to my Michigan income. Why? It does not in TT. How do I correct this?

Incidentally, when I go to my State Return, click on forms, and look at the Divd. Worksheet, it shows TD Ameritrade and under that it says Muni Bond Fund, out of State, $336. Why? It?s in-state, Michigan?

While I'm not familiar with the inner workings of either program, it seems obvious that the Block program assumes all muni interest is out-of-state unless you set a flag somewhere that tells it that it's in-state. TT either does the opposite or reads the state indicator from the 1099.

My H&RBlock works properly on manually entered 1099s. Can't tell you about downloaded ones because apparently there is a flaw and it doesn't work with Fidelity or Etrade. They advised me to do it manually as it might never be fixed.

That's an idea. I'll maybe delete the 1099 and then enter it again, manually. Strange. I have to believe that I'm missing something. I know when you check the forms the 1099-INT ones that show non-taxable interest are followed by a question asking how much of it is tax exempt for Mi. Still, very awkward, and nothing like that for the 109-DIV

Guess what? IT WORKED.

I went in and delete the line 10 amount. Then I created a new 1099-DIV. When I put in the amount, it asked me how much of it is tax exempt. That did it.
