Is there any tax software that does NOT require Internet connection

I have been using TurboTax happily for 10 years. I buy the CD and install it on a PC that is NOT connected to the Internet.

I was about to purchase the latest TurboTax 2009 (Home & Business) to prepare my taxes but then I noticed that it requires Internet connection to be installed.

This is very disappointing to me and I am looking for an alternative software that doesn't require Internet connection to be installed.

Is there tax software that does NOT require Internet connection?

Thanks in advance.

This doesn't answer your question, but I would want that machine to be internet connected, so updates can be obtained. You could always disconnect the machine from the net when you're actively using the program, and keep the data on a removable drive of some kind, if you're suspicious of data theft.

The IRS offers a collection of tax forms through their website.

You will have to download the forms, but once you have the copies, you may install on any PC.

I think the only reason TT requires an Internet connection is so that you can download updated forms. Once you've done that, I don't think it needs you to be connected. In previous years it did license checks, but I think they got rid of that.

I'm not sure that it is "required" per se... It's for the updates - forms, software, logic, rules, help, etc - Without a connection, how did you get "updates" ?

I just installed TT 2009 Deluxe (Fed & State Returns), and it does not require an Internet connection.

See other recent reply confirming no internet required to install.

Which got me to thinking... there was a time in the late '80s and early to mid '90s when tax software was shipped on removable (floppy) disk or CD, with no option for easy updates -- so they pretty much had to have it right the first time, or at least close enough for government work.

For one particular professional tax product, I'm *still* waiting for a tax year 2009 release update that allows entry of 2008 NOL carryover...
