Is anyone having any RMS 2.0 Installation Issues

Greetings,

I'm attempting to install MS-RMS 2.0 but I keep encountering an error 1305: error reading from file D:\SO\SO\program files\Microsoft Ret....\DBFiles\rmsdb.bck

I tried installing it on another machine and I got the same error but with a different file - a ".chm" file.

I'm running Windows XP on a Pentium M and I'm an Administrator user. I received RMS 2.0 copy on a burned disc from a re-seller (could there actually be a relationship between the physical media CD and the application on the CD?). Are there any issues with that? I do have the Microsoft issued license key, but the failure is happening at installation time (i.e. I am never prompted for license keys).

Hi ZY,

I had the error 1305 issue while installing RMS V2 on one of six xp stations and found it was the only machine that didn't have SP2. Once I downloaded and installed service pack two it installed fine. Also note that once RMS V2 has been installed there will be two addtional updates from Microsoft Update. Post if this fixes your issue, I can look into it more.

Hi Jess,

Many thanks for your response.

However, I checked my machine's "system information" (i.e. under Accessories

- OS Name: Microsoft Windows XP Professional

- Version: 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600

Would you suggest attempting to re-install SP2? Any other suggestions?

Thanks again, ZY

Thats the same build I updated to? Once I updated the XP to all the latest fixes under the Microsoft Update and the error 1305 went away. Doesn't make much sense to me why not finding a file on the installation CD would go away after the updates, unless its trying to find a missing patch for your computer. I would suggest doing all the Microsoft Updates, not just the windows updates. Also can you clearify are you trying to install or populate the DB?

Jess, thanks again!

I'm just trying to go through the installation of RMS - I think you may be on the right track that that portion of the installation had to with the DB.

Also, I got a similar message on another machine, except it was referring to the file "Store Operations.chm" (I can't remeber the path).

I'll also attempt making sure all Windows Updates have been implmented

Update:

I tried the below steps and I'm still getting the same issue.

A bad CD perhaps? It sounds like the machine is unable to read the disk properly...

I think you may be on to something...that the only piece that hasn't been isolated. I tried copying the CD's contents to my Hard Drive but some files failed in the copy.

I'm trying to get myself another copy

Thanks a lot for all your help Regards, ZY
