Installation Issues

I'm using QB2001 for a home-based business. I need to move the program to another computer, both running Windows XP. I installed the program on the second computer, but when I tried to open the company file, I received the following error message: "This data is from a newer version of QuickBooks. It cannot be used." I assume this is a result of the online updates that have occurred (?)

I tried to update the program by using "File >>> Update QuickBooks...", but that resulted in the following Update Error Message: "Failed to initialize update module IdD. ActiveX component can't create object."

I would appreciate any suggestions on how to resolve this issue. Fortunately, I checked this before uninstalling on the first computer, so I'm okay for the present time, but I really need to move it as soon as possible. Worst case scenario, if I purchase and install QB2008 on the second computer, should it be able to read my company file? Thanks very much for your help.

Manually download the update file from the QB website.

Thanks very much for the feedback. It was an interesting search for the update file - never could find it on the QB website, but Google finally found it. Regardless, it worked great, and problem is solved. Thanks again.

I had some problems with a QB Pro 2005 reinstall on XP also. The CD tries to install a now old version of Flashplayer with a newer version being already resident on the new computer. This, of course, won't go. At that point I decided it was time for the never-ending upgrade to QB Pro 2008 to happen.

If you're running a small business on 2001 software, I suggest that spending a few hours trying to shoehorn a 7-year old software into a modern-day computer won't be your biggest problem. You need to spend a couple hundred bucks and get the latest version.

You make it sound like that is a bad thing. What if after QuickBooks for Dos version 1 was written Intuit thanked their programmers and told them their services were no longer required? There never would have been a version 2, least of all QB Pro 2008.

Lets all prey that the upgrades never stop. I can't even begin to imagine how fantastic QB 2025 will be?

You've got to be kidding; "how fanstastic QB 2025 will be."

Garbage in garbage out. Nothing is more true about QB.

Personally, I can not wait for the competition to show QB the door.

That's what they said when Intuit only had 85% market share now they have

92%.
