Multiple Computer Installation

I just upgraded to 2007 premier from 2004 deluxe. I've been able to do my work on my desktop where I did the update and still use the files on my laptop, but of course since I upgraded the laptop cannot recognize the new converted files. Do I have to purchase the Quicken 2007 again in order to allow me to work on my laptop, or can I just install the new CD and not register it? Can I use the same unlock code on the laptop that was provided for my desktop computer? I also have 2004 installed on my office computer and I can back-up my work onto a flash drive and restore it to my desktop at home. Will I still be able to do this or do I have to pay for the upgrade on every computer I own? Thanks.

I do this exact situation all of the time and I upgrade every year. The software doesn't work until you register. It's just a lame thing it forces you to do but use the same account info if you want to do udpates. As far as I know there is no unlock codes for 2007. I'm using 2007 Premier and haven't had an issue with unlock codes causing me troubles on more than one computer.

You can easily skip registration. From

From the Online menu choose One Step Update. After selecting One Step Update, with Ctrl + Shift still held down, you will receive a message that states, "You will no longer be prompted for registration." At this point registration is disabled and you will not receive any further messages regarding it."

This was written for Quicken 2002-2005, but also works on 2006.

Scott, so I take it that you purchase a copy of the software for each computer you have it on, or do you use the same unlock code for your other computers?

Forgive me if I am wrong. But I don't think that Rob was implying you were not allowed to use the software on multiple computers, but was, rather, asking about the method to install on more than one. I.E. do you enter the registration information you received when you installed on the single computer?

I have to admit ignorance. I do not use an unlock code to install Quicken

2007 Premier on any of my machines. It just installs and runs. I have to register it for updates to work, but that's not an unlock. Unless it's downloading an unlock secretly during the registration process and I'm not aware of it.

However, I did notice a license file on the CD that has a unique code in it. Maybe I have another pressing of the CD?

I'd wager most people could give a rip. Most people feel if they paid for it, they own it.

EULA s are so much b.s.. As in the software police are going to swoop down and audit a private residence. Now, for office installations I have no sympathy, the users can damn well fork over for the proper licenses.

I work at a university, and I'm very glad that we can get academic versions at lower than full price. Our research budget is getting so low that it is really scary.
