W9's still MIA

Quoted: "The September 2007 revision of Form W-9, Request for Taxpayer Identification Number and Certification, has been temporarily removed from IRS.gov. A necessary correction to the instructions was recently discovered. The previously posted version should not be used, and any printed copies should be destroyed. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We anticipate posting the corrected file no later than Monday, October 22. 10/17/2007" Last I checked October 22nd came and went. My customer from a call last week won't pay a $2200 invoice until I give him a W9. Heaven forbid I am 1 hour past midnight on April 15th filing my taxes, but the government can take their sweet time changing the forms I vitally need in order to make a living. So instead of fixing the form and posting a new one ASAP, they waste time making a PDF _saying_ they are fixing it. Dan

You don't need the latest version to send to a customer. You can download the previous version from this link.

I suspect the caution not to use the previously posted version refers to the September 2007 version that has been recalled. The link below opens the January 2005 version. I see no reason why you can't use it.

Looks as if it's now back.

As the tax protestor movement will tell everyone, this form lacks an OMB number. And always has so far as I know. And for several years now it lists an LLC as your possible entity while the IRS insists an LLC is an ignored entity.
