Bank accounts after Bankruptcy

Can anyone tell me if after voluntary bankruptcy it is possible to have a very basic bank account ? And also if it is still possible to allow direct debits to still be processed.

Thanks.

Yes it should be ok to open a basic bank account.Best to be open with bank when opening account state your financial position and ask for basic account. They will be able to confirm your details when conducting credit score. Some banks will allow direct debits on basic accounts but many have a policy of 3 strikes and you are out. ie if they return 3 direct debits unpaid you will be given 30 days notice that your account will be closed. Yes, you will be able to open a Basic Bank Account with some banks, but they will not necessarily allow you to operate Direct Debits (the British Banking Association has a full list - available as pdf file - of what each bank offers).

However, Yorkshire Building Society do a Cash Transactor Card Account where Direct Debits in and out come as standard. Has a very simple Application Form, which doesn't require letting them know your life history!

I just showed them my passport and a mobile phone bill (probably best to use a different utility bill, as I doubt they should have accepted a mobile phone bill!)

Best Wishes
