Banking foreign cheques

Just been charged 10 by Abbey National for dealing with a US$ cheque to the value of 30.

I think this is outrageous. Can anyone out there tell me exactly how much work is involved in this process?

and wait for them to pay your bank before you get funds. Some will 'negotiate' cheque for you and let you have funds within a few days subject to recourse if cheque bounces. Some banks such as Ltsb charge a smaller fixed fee of 5 for cheques up to value of 100. Eric

Probably more than a tenners worth, there is a lot of farting around as bits of paper have to physically travel around.

Thanks for your input, everyone. Looks like I may need to draw down my on-line poker winnings in larger instalments or get one of those PayPal account thingies.
