Right, well I can't see any reason whatsoever to keep a Barclaycard anymore.

Can anyone else?

I dumped them when they made Profile Points worthless virtually overnight.

These got transferred to Nectar which aren't TOTALLY worthelss, but certainly worth alot less than the 2% cashback I get on the Amex card.

Not really, no. Their loss. Any recommendations for alternatives for folks like me who only actually use them for freebies and 56 days free credit?

Best Regards, Alex.

Nationwide's cashback reward card pays 1% for the first 6 months, then 0.5%, and does not load FX transactions with the usual 2.75% gimme. They also treat credits to the account during the month as payments and deduct them from what they collect on the due date, which not all cards do. I find this rather sporting.

The best cashback deal I know of is the Amex Platinum, which pays up to 4% cashback if (a) you spend enough and (b) you get hold of the promo leaflet that offers this. Otherwise, it's a mere 2%. Amex Blue is a reasonable second-best.

Amex have a nasty habit of collecting their money very early though - typically about 18 days after the statement date. Nationwide are much more generous at about 26 days after.

All 3 above cards are free to hold but there is a minimum spend of about

500 pa on the Amex.

So you can "engineer" a *zero* minimum payment? - By simply making a purchase, then immediately obtaining a refund (at least of the amount of your otherwise "minimum payment" - and make sure it's at a shop where you're sure you'll be able to get a refund for no reason!) ??
