Cahoot bank - Abbey group in uk.

Hi all,

Browsing into the consumer association site "Which?" - accounts comparison, the first suggested bank resulted to be Cathoot bank - Abbey group.

I have never heard about it.

I am wondering if anyone has an account in this bank and can give me an opinion about it too.

Many thanks.

Best regards, Stefania

Cahoot - not cathoot?

I have found them to be fine in all respects over 3(?) years. Only one error put right within 24hrs and compensation paid.

So how long did all the other errors take to put right and why was no compensation paid for them? :-)

I've had an account with Cahoot for just about 4 years. Decent in-credit interest rate, 250 interest free OD. I've had no major problems; a couple of niggles but easily sorted.

OK, put in the comma:

What was the error, by the way?

My experience is identical to Mark's, and to save you asking... :-)

They direct debited more than 2,000 (for benefit of my Cahoot credit card account) an old current account at Alliance & Leicester (instead of the Cahoot current account) from which I had originally funded my Cahoot opening balance. This was a couple of years ago and blamed on a software error. Full and speedy compensation of A&L charges. Then A&L decided that it was silly to have attempted such a large debit against a dormant account which had not been in the red ever before in its 34 year existence. So 28 to the good on that one. :-)

Decent web interface, decent interest rates. No problems experienced (yet) Neil Pike Protech Computing Ltd (Please post ALL replies to the newsgroup only unless indicated otherwise)

Hi

I have used Cahoot for some years now.

I am very pleased with it. The website loads quickly and transactions are easy to process online.

Thankfully, I have had no problems.

A useful facility is that you can pay cheques in at the post office (assuming there is one left near to you). This might be more convenient than going to a branch of abbey national.

Also, you can pay items in by post with prepaid envelopes.

Overall, I would say it is very good.

Note that ING direct also offer quite good interest rates on deposits, if you are after a savings account (you can't have a cheque book with this account). See

I've been with them for 3 years. There were problems in their early days, (direct debits put through twice for a short period ). Other than that they're OK. Unfortunately if you need to phone them, it's on an 0870 number, which can prove expensive if you have a complicated problem to sort out. Better & cheaper to write to them. On the plus side their website is easy to use, and works faster than most other similar online banks.

Hi I've been using them for a while now the website is excellent and I can do more on their website than I could in a Barclays branch when I worked for Barclays!!!

Callcentre staff are not the most knowledgable and helpful and the loan interest rates are based on a random number generator. but overall a good product and service. Only drawback I found is paying cash or cheques in because you cant do it over the counter at an Abbey branch you have to do it in a post office or through the post. How often are you going to be paying in cash or cheques though.

For simple day to day transactions I would definately recommend them.

Who told me they couldn't accept payments for Cahoot accounts...

Not my experience. They certainly knew a lot more than the Barclays staff I called with exactly the same problem.

They reply to your questions promptly, if tersely. If you got into it a little earlier in the year you could have got an account that pays

5.65% interest for a year. After that it'll drop to 5.1% or whatever their regular savings rate is, which still isn't bad.

The current highest rate savings account appears to be Alliance and Leicester's one, which pays 5.35%.

I've been with Cahoot for 3 years,no problems. The only thing i don't like is the log in.Fine if on your own PC,but very insecure on a public one(i.e. internet cafe) which could well have a keystroke logger installed.Lloyds TSB much better in that you have to use a scroll down menu for log in which would not be recorded by a hidden logger.

My problem was they failed to make an international transfer. They then made the transfer free of charge, paid (generously) the lose due to exchange rate fluctuation plus 50. Incidentally the transfer left my Cahoot account on Monday afternoon and arrived in my Thailand bank account on Tuesday morning.

Time to learn how to cut and paste text with the mouse!

Password: MySecretPassword You Type MineSecretPass2001wordy

then highlight "ine" with the mouse and right click and chose `cut`, then highlight the "y" and "cut" and lick next to the "M" and "paste" etc etc.

Of course, this assumes that there's not keyboard and mouse logger.

You're right, though, there are things that could be done about it that don't require this sort of arsing around, but hey - it works!

I learned that 12 years ago thank you very much.I do have a system for use when on a public PC,which does involve pasting but not as you described, which would be far too easy for even a halfwit to get round given enough time. The fact remains,a system like LloydsTSB would be far easier & safer.

Don't encourage them to change the login, no information that I have to write down. But Cahoot could change the log out and remove the "are you sure" screen - a total waste of time.

They don't seem to be able to make my current account statement run from the first to the last of the month. It runs from the second to the first of the following month. I'm guessing whoever wrote it didn't think about the end day being variable or couldn't cope with it.
