can i get my money back!!

I was in talks with a representative for a company in england to attend a seminar that cost several thousand pounds. I recently checked my account to find that they had billed my account the full amount, one payment back in December and the remaining two payments at the end of January.

The person that I had an agreement with is no longer working at the company and it has since been passed onto someone else. I was told that since I have no actual proof of my original, delayed payment scheme agreement with 5 free tickets for another seminar thrown in, that they can not honor it. They are however willing to give me 3 free tickets.

They seem very dodgy and I am not happy with the way things are going. I flat out do not want to do business with them anymore as I don't approve of their dodgy antics.

The problem is that they have already billed my credit card the full amount without my consent. Do I stand a chance getting my money back by going through the credit card company (egg) and telling them that I didn't authorise any of the payments (which I didn't). And am I likely to get all three payments back especially as I didn't see the first payment that was taken back in December. I have been traveling and not had a chance to check my account regularly.

many thanks Al

Of course you do. The only way you would not get your money back is if the company in question can prove that you did authorise them.

Did you sign anything? Do you have a copy of it? Read it!

No, thats the thing, all our talks were verbal over the phone. I didn't sign anything or receive any letters about terms of agreements etc.

I am talking with the company now to see if they will refund and if not then I will contact the bank.

Serve them a data subject access request for the phone conversations ?

Sounds like a pretty open and shut case to me, unless there's something you're not telling us. If you didn't authorise the payments, just contact the credit card company and I'm sure you'll be able to get them to refund the money.

Good luck!
