Can Working Tax Credits be Claimed for Previous Years?

I think I would have been eligible for working tax credits for some previous tax years, but I didn't claim these as I didn't really know about them before.

Is it possible to claim tax credits for previous tax years, or can tax credits only for the 2004-2005 tax year currently be claimed?

If previous tax years can be claimed for, how far back can be claimed for?

Claims can only be back dated by three months, so if you claim today it will only be back dated to 18th May. Initially this will be based on income for 2004/05 or on an estimate for 2005/06. At the end of the day it will only be paid on a pro-rata basis for 2005/06 for 323 days (or less, according to the date of claim).
