Car tax

May 18, 2004 4 Replies

My car tax ran out but I am sure I did not receive a reminder. It ran out on May 1st.

What do I need to do to renew it? Do I just go to the post office and they can do it there and then?

If so, do I take my driving license, MOT certificate, insurance and payment?

Regards,

Jon

You don't need your driving licence. You'll need to fill in a form, available at the PO. You might also need your registration document.

ISTR post offices can only issue tax discs in the window of

2 weeks before and after they're due. If so, you're technically out of time and need to contact your local Vehicle Licensing office.

Without a hint of irony, Ronald Raygun astounded uk.finance on 18 May 2004 by announcing:

And hope they don't slap you with one of them there fines...

I got my last one over a month and a half late (not great at remembering these things). It was fine to get at the post office, and I didn't get a fine!

The only thing they do say now is you MUST have either reminder or your log book.
