Hi
I have recently sold my old house and bought a new one. We had an endowment mortgage on the old house, but have got a repayment mortgage on the new house.
Our old mortgage was for about £79,000. We have paid in £131.38 a month, to the endowment policy with the Norwich Union, for the past 6 years (so have paid almost £9500...).
I have just requested the surrender value for the policy and have been quoted £4708.58 (by Norwich Union). Is this normal? The surrender value being only half of what you have paid in. I was shocked by this!
What options do I have open to me?
- approaching endowment brokers (any recommendations?) - am I likely to get a little more for the policy?
- is it possible to terminate payments into the endowment, but not collect until it's full term? I am definitely not keen to continue paying £131.38 into the policy (unless there is likely to be a good return...)
- any other options?
Thanks, Honey (please post replies - I don't read this email address...)
