Council Tax Benefit

X-no-archive: yes

Hi,

If I am a company director just starting up a new company (with very little money now)... and I pay myself 7,000 p.a. would I be entitled to council tax benefit (if I have no savings etc?) and what if if I made a big profit in the next year in the company would that count as my savings and thus make me ineligable ?

Cheers

They would probably count company profits which you could have drawn as "notional income". The means tested benefits rules are a lot stricter than tax rules (they can even count loans as income!).

If your income is below 11,000 (more if you have a partner/kids) you may also get some Working Tax Credit.

Post on uk.gov.social-security if you want a more definitive answer.

I don't think so. You need to be in receipt of benefits.
