Credit report questions.

Two questions regarding credit reports.

1) My friend, who is not British, wishes to get a copy of her credit report. She been in this country for less than 6 years. The form asks for addresses where one has been living in the last 6 years. Should she just ignore this - the form does not include a "Country" section, and I assume it will cause more trouble if she tries to give full information.

2) Sometimes other people are shown on the reports. I know that my family members are listed on my report. Are the reports based upon an address or a surname. IOW, if people with different surnames were living at the same address would one report show all their information (unless they had disassociated themselves from the others)?

Thanks.

The address is looked up (not the surname) and details of previous occupants are sometimes returned along with a code to say whether this is an exact match of the person being looked up. I don't think you should panic too much as many credit checking programs ignore details from Equifax where the details returned are not an exact match.

I'm not sure what to do about being there less than 6 years but I would recommend registering to vote if possible as this will help.

information.

You do not *have* to include anything other your you current address, its just to make it easier to make sure you get all relevent files.

information

The report will show everyone at the address on the electoral role and every one with a CCJ regardless of surname (ie. public information)

In addition it will show further information for people with the same surname as you or who they believe there is a financial relationship (eg. a joint mortgage). This further information will include previous searches, exisiting credit account information and linked addresses.

I believe they are changing this this year so only further information (ie. non public) about a exact name match will be shown. Not sure about that though.

Not for much longer.

Now based upon your name and any people with financial association (joint account, mortgage etc.) Used to be anyone at that address.

I asked because I was wondering how this would work, say, in a student hall of residence where there might be 500 people on the electoral roll at that address.

But, if now it is by surname and financial association, this is a moot point. Previously, then would someone have got a 500+ page document of everyone at that address?

So does this mean that public information will be shown for all at the address, but non-public information only for the requested and those he has a joint association with?

Unsure

Yes (once the change goes through)

Do you know when that is? I think you are saying that it was never the case that non-public details were provided on everyone at an address - just those with the same surname? Thanks.

Afraid not.

Same surname and those with financial association irrespective of the name.

Experian implemented the "change" at the end of October last year.
