Address changes and credit reporting agencies.

When you change address, what is the best way of alerting the credit reporting agencies, especially if you have several accounts.

IOW, if you let one bank know, how will this affect the situation.

I do not want a situation where there are problems in the future, because different accounts have different addresses at Experian and Equifax.

And, in fact, would this cause any problems?

Also, am I right in thinking that if people with the same surname live at the same address e.g. parents and children, unless there is a financial association between members, even if people have the same surname, they cannot see their families credit / loan / bank details?

Thanks.

I wouldn't worry about this too much, if you notify the bank of a change of address they will pass this on to the credit ref agency.

When I moved out of my parents address I had a number of credit cards with nil balances that I never used. It was a few years before I got round to either canceling these, or notifying them all of the address change, so Experian & Equifax in effect had me on their records as living at two addresses at the same time for about 3 years - it never caused me any problems in getting credit then or since.

I think this is the situation now. When I last got a credit report it showed only my own details, not those of anyone else at my current or former addresses.

This didn't used to be the case, I remember getting a copy of my credit report sometime during the mid 1990's and it showed the credit limits & balances of cards held by everyone at my address, including my stepfather who has a different surname to me !
