How to illegaly transfer $1,000,000 from Mexico to the UK

I was reading about the Mexican police finding US$223 million in a house in Mexico.

Just as an exercise in ingenuity, lets say you were in a guesthouse in Mexico and found a smaller amount, say US$1,000,000 behind the wardrobe, the previous occupent's drug deal having gone wrong.

How would you get that cash into the UK?

My thoughts: Fly back: but airport scanners can apparently detect bundles of cash. Probably hard to disguise. Open account in Mexico? Hard to deposit that much cash. Would be difficult to transfer. Hire car and drive to US, hope to get through customs. Easier to launder that much cash in the US? Buy gold? Would need to split over many gold-dealers. Same risk of gold being deteced in bag.

My best option: sail with the cash to the UK. That way there would be no scanners to deal with? Only hope that the UK customs don't open the bag?

Walk into a bank. Raise one eyebrow. Say "I'd like to make a small cash deposit" and then open the suitcase on the counter. At which point the bank manager will come running out "How can I help you Mr Bon^H^H^HWoodall"

There was a case recently here in London where smugglers brought cocaine into the UK - millions of pounds worth of it - *inside* wood. They liquified cocaine, impregnated wooden doors with it, imported the doors into the UK, scraped the doors to pieces, then refined pure concaine back out of the scrapings!

Completely undetectable yet they *still* managed to get caught because somebody grasssed them up!

Good idea, they make paper out of liquified wood anyway.....

What about the old Boy's Own technique of hollowing out books, replacing the pages with the dosh?

Something you may need to do as a precaution if transferring in bulk is to launder the money to remove any traces of cocaine the sniffer machines/dogs will pick up.

Sailing is I believe the best option as it allows more or less complete freedom to come and go as you please. I'd be interested to know whether there are any effective checks. Even if there are it would be easy to transfer to a local boat out for a jolly.

I wondered whether sizing is an issue. The largest denomination is $100 which measures 2.61 inches wide by 6.14 inches long, and the thickness is .0043 inches.

10,000 of these is 689 cubic inches or 3.5 feet high so size shouldn't really be an issue assuming $100 bills.

I would buy something in Mexico worth a lot of money that can be carried in a suitcase and sell it once I got to the UK.

How about buying a yacht and sailing it home?

Why bother coming back home to the UK?

Just stay in Mexico and spend it....
