How to terminate insurance?

Some years ago, I took out one of those hospital income plans from a Royal and SunAlliance agent who turned up on my doorstep.

Over the years, all I've had from them is requests to increase the premium until recently when I moved home and another unknown company wrote to inform me that they were taking over these policies and asking for my renewal. It seemed a good time to drop it.

Having experienced similar with motor insurance in the past, I suspected there was something murky going on and ignored the request

I noticed that Royal and Sun Alliance were still processing my monthly direct debit, so I cancelled it and naturally received a reminder that my premium wasn't being paid

They then wrote to me infoming me that I'd breached the terms of my loan agreement and that they intended to take enforcement action. I telephoned their premium rate 0870 501 0122 number which was answered by Lloyds TSB. introducing a third company into this confusion.

Now from what I read it seems that I must complete monthly payments for an annual premium but can somebody tell me what on earth is going on with all these different companies involved?

It is happening all the time. When the new company doesn't tell their customers, which happens very often, they add considerably to their profits. It makes it difficult for people to trace their investment and many never do.
