I thought the Halifax set it up as a subsiduary but just heard it was a seperate company but underwritten by the Halifax ?
any experts on this ?

Halifax created IF, just like Prudential created Egg and Abbey National created Cahoot.

Neither. IF is just a trading name of Halifax plc.
