IFA wanted

I need advice on pension provision....asked the IFA round the corner and he wanted 50 just for me to walk into his office......

Presumably because, justifiably imo, IFA commissions have been hammered by the advent of stakeholder pensions. But you need to get a grip on reality and be prepared to pay for advice, either via fees or commissions, if you learn something beyond what you can learn from other sources.

I expect that you've overstated the case, which is a pity if you want to make a valid point. I see no way that he would charge you 50 to walk into his office. However if you are going to have him sit down with you, 50 is probably less than half an hour of his time, and isn't enough time to do very much.
