Don't go in with pre-conceived ideas. I hate formal pensions schemes, ( but they MAY be for you. )
I deduce what you really want is some ideas on how to plan for a financially secure retirement.
Go to a holistic advice based IFA. DONT go in and ask for a pension, cos then you'll get one and in 30+ years (or whatever) you will be posting in this group asking who to complain to, to get your money back.
Go in and ask for ways to ensure you have a decent income after you stop working.
If he says, right away, 'you need a Pension', then (X) stand up (quickly) grab all your belongings and make a desperate dash for the door. Make sure you get out quick. The benefits you get in retirement will be directly proportional to the speed at which you get out of his office.
If, on the other hand, he says "hmm, lets have a chat about the different ways we can do that', then at least sit down. After a while, if you like what he says, you can take your coat off. If you dont then go back to "X" above. Try and avoid a Stakeholder or any other form of formal pension if you can.
cheers...hadnt really thought about that
what about the tax back from the govt with other schemes?

That'll be the dosh you have to give back to them out of your pension income I assume? Dont invest just for tax breaks.
