Information supplied by Equifax

My organisation is interested in using a Credit Reference Agency to help us determine the correct course of action to take against those people that have not met their payment obligations. We would also benefit from information that would help us negotiate a more realistic repayment schedule (above the organisations minimum level) where a customer has a lot of arrears.

If we could obtain information that shows us how much a customer spends and repays per month on credit cards, store cards, mobile phone bills etc we would be in a much stronger position in our negotiations.

The credit reference agencies that I have dealt with so far only tell us if a customer is making payments or not. They do not say how much these payment are for.

I also have a list of characteristics that they can supply about an individual, however, I am unsure on some of the terminology and would be interested to know if anyone can suggest which of these would be best to provide the information that I am looking for.

Thanks

I doubt that anyone would provide such detailed information. Even the banks appear not to be legally able tell each other about what customers owe (but this is being discussed between banks to enable that to happen) The failings in the system is why too much money has often be lent to people even without a job etc. The best you can do i think is to give each person a form to fill in detailing they income and outgoings and work out something reasonable with them. By working with them in a reasonable manner your more likely to get the result you want than by trying to force them to pay what they cannot afford. To give you an example two companies to whom i owed money refused point blank to even negotiate even when i told them i wanted to try and resolve the matter and that failure would result in them getting nothing at all because i would be going for bankruptcy. Needless to say when they simply didnt want to know they were at the top of the creditors list even though in one case it was for less than 70. (I had asked them to let me close a phone contract early and that i would pay in full immediately the outstanding balance.)

The Banks cant tell one another, but each can and does tell the Credit Reference Agencies and each can enquire of the agencies.

Even a standard report will include amount owed, the payments and the status with regard to arrears etc.

John,

As I mentioned the credit reference companies that I have spoken to so far cannot provide this level of detail. You seem fairly sure that the payment amounts will be included in a credit report. Could you suggest which credit reference companies Do hold this info.

Much apprecited

Experian do. They show the contractual payments on loans etc., Credit Cards do not show the payments because that is a variable amount.
