Investing in intellectual property.

I met a guy in Brighton who apparently earns about £10,000 a month in respect of copyright to songs and other musical items which he inherited. Apparently his mother who part owned a music publishing company bequeathed to him the rights to the songs etc and he gets paid substantial royalties every time the songs are sung or the music played.

Is it possible to buy artistic rights as an investment and where are they bought and sold? I've never seen them advertised anywhere.

theoretically yes. But I the supply is very limited so in that sense they aren't a viable "investment class".

I imagine that they are sold using personal contacts.

I doubt that you ever would
